Millennium Electrodes -
Bombarding and Pumping Procedure
|
The
following procedure is for 15.5V802-5/8" electrodes on 15 mm or
larger diameter coated Sign Tubing. Adjust the procedure for other sizes, smaller diameter
tubing, and tubes less than 18" long.
- Open the main stopcock (valve) and
allow pressure to fall.
- At 6 Torr switch on the current. At
approximately 2 Torr the tubes will light up. Close the main stopcock (valve)
- Set the current at the Starting
Current for the model size (See Chart)
- At the temperature 150-170 degrees
Celsius, increase the current to the Stage 2 Milliamps prescribed on the chart.
- Maintain the tube pressure at 2 Torr.
- At the tube temperature 200 degrees
Celsius increase the current to the final current Milliamps as prescribed on the chart.
The now rapidly heating electrodes will release gases which must be pumped away by opening
and closing the main stopcock (valve) in order to maintain between 1 and 2 Torr pressure.
- When the tube reaches 250 degrees
Celsius and all the shells are glowing bright orange/red along with the whole length and
no more gases are being released open fully the main stopcock (valve) and switch off the
current.
- After ultimate vacuum is achieved and
the tube temperature falls to 50 degrees Celsius, fill the tubes with the required rare
gas and seal off.
